Runoff Update Announcement

April 20, 2023

Dear Friends:

THE SCHOOL BOARD ELECTION RUNOFF IS ON AND YOUR VOTE IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN EVER!  Early voting starts Thursday April 25, in Hillsborough (details below).  All polls will be open on election day, May 14th.

Recent news about Bonnie’s opponent is confusing many voters.  Her opponent has resigned from the school board amidst questions about her educational credentials and organizations that she manages (see News and Observer).  This resignation applies only to her current term which ends in June.  The runoff election is for a new term starting in July.

Bonnie must win the runoff to be re-elected for a second term, and continue to serve our students, teachers, and families.  If Bonnie’s voters don’t turn out, Bonnie’s opponent could win and return to the board in July.  If she chooses to not return, the board will appoint an unknown to fill the vacant seat.

You already know that Bonnie is the right choice for our school board.  She shows up, engages, and is doing a great job serving our schools. Improvements we have been waiting a long time for are finally coming.  If you want to keep the momentum and keep Bonnie on the board, it is critical to vote in the runoff and encourage others to do the same.

Please help spread the word.  The runoff is on, and everyone needs to vote.  If someone needs a ride to the polls or more information, please let us know.

Sincerely,

Announcement
Letter
December 28, 2023

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

I am pleased to announce that I am running for re-election to the Orange County School (OCS) Board to continue to serve OCS students, families, and staff.  I am grateful for the support of a broad, diverse community that puts students, teachers, and families above personal agendas and partisan politics.  I’m genuinely moved by the trust you have placed in me to represent your interests, and to raise the questions that are important to you.

The last few years have been challenging – especially as we recover from COVID.  There are signs of progress, but a lot of work lies ahead to create the safe, inclusive, and excellent schools that our students and teachers deserve.

My priorities continue to be:

  • Academic excellence and a challenging curriculum for every student.  We are seeing improvements, but student proficiency, especially for our black, brown, and economically disadvantaged students, is not recovering as it should. There’s more to do to assure that teachers and needed supports are reaching every student.

  • Strong support to teachers and staff where every professional - teachers, social workers, counselors, bus drivers, custodians, cafeteria staff, and more – feels supported, valued, and respected.

  • Equity, transparency, and accountability assuring that every school and student has access to the resources and services that they need while assuring OCS stakeholders that public funds and resources are being used effectively.

I look forward to continuing to work with families, teachers, and community members to provide every student access to the teachers and resources they need to be successful.  That’s what our students and teachers deserve. That’s why I’m running.

It’s happening fast.  Election Day is March 5th: early voting begins on Feb 15.   You can follow us at bonniehauser.com and reach me at any time Bonnie4OCS@gmail.com or 919-619-4354.

Best wishes for the new year! I’ll look forward to seeing you on the campaign trail.

Sincerely,

Bonnie
